just getting started?
January 18, 2011 by Anonomous Aquarist

my wife and I recently decided to start a reef tank. both of us know nothing about keeping fish and had no idea what we were in store for. The people at the fish store are very knowledgeable and can help you out will all your fish and tank needs. they carry a wide variety of coral, which is what my wife and I were really looking for. they helped us out with everything and did not make us feel uncomfortable even though we are completely new at this. they were also very great with returns and exchanges even though we lost our receipts. if you fish die you can bring back the body and they can give you store credit and help you solve your water problems. I would highly recommend this place to any one. don't shop at crappy Petco, go local :P

Best Fish Store In Seattle
September 21, 2010 by Anonomous Aquarist

The staff at The Fish Store is super knowledge-able and experienced! They have tons of exotic fish and anything you could possibly need as far as supplies go. They are also genuinely helpful and will direct you to another supplier if you actually find something that they don't have. I saw a review that said that they don't take good care of their fish... That's not true! all of the tanks are cleaned and the fish inside get along. In fact the employees even know what kinds of fish like each-other so if you're setting up a large tank, they can recommend fish breeds with similar habitats and friendly attitudes. Whenever I have a fish question I call them first. (The guy with a beard is especially knowledge-able!)

SECOND UPON A TIME
August 9, 2010 by Anonomous Aquarist

I SECOND EVERYTHING THE ONCE UPON A TIME REVIEW SAYS. THE ONLY NICE PERSON IN THE STORE IS THE YOUNG GUY. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE, GO TO A RED SEA AQUARIUM, IT HAS MUCH BETTER SERVICE AND PRODUCTS.

Bad reviews?
March 21, 2010 by Anonomous Aquarist

I have shopped a the fish store since 97 and will shop there as long as the place stays open. They have fish I have only seen and books and never at other shops or chain stores (recently danioellas and kubotai rasporas). I really respect that they prefer to buy fish and plants from local hobbyist. My apistos I bought there breed all the time and pay for my fish food. I have always been treated courteously there and have only observed bad treatment to those whom eminate it. I have seen sick fish in every shop I have visited including the fish store. I believe it goes with the turf so to speak. The difference is at the fish store I have always been told when the fish were not saleable rather than a quick sale. When I did loose fish they tested my water to help me figure out what was wrong and gave we a store credit to honor thier gurantee rather than just sending me with more fish to die.

Once Upon A Time ...
February 16, 2010 by Anonomous Aquarist

... back in the 80's, The Fish Store was a wonderful place to go for fresh and saltwater fish and accessories, or just to talk fish with others who were more knowledgeable than you.

In 2010, The Fish Store is filthy, cramped, has HUGE markups on retail items, sells severely diseased fish, cannot even tell the difference between or even properly identify the different species of fish and plants they carry, and has the rudest, most apathetic staff I have had the misfortune of encountering.

As much as I HATE to say it, give me Petco any day.

Helpful and Informative
September 30, 2009 by Anonomous Aquarist

I wanted a fish and although my husband knows everything under the sun about fish, the staff at the Fish Store helped me pick the perfect fish for me. And, their knowledge appeased him. I go back for all my fish needs. It may cost a little more than PetCo or online, but it's LOCAL. That's more important to me than saving 50 cents on fish food.

Great Selection
July 23, 2009 by Anonomous Aquarist

I really don't know what people are talking about when they give this place a bad review. In my opinion, this is one of the better stores in Washington and I frequent stores from Tacoma to Bellingham regularly. (fish are my Crack)

The selection is fantastic. Sure I'll see an occasional fish/tank that has the Ich, but that's expected in a retail store that has high turnover. Fish get stressed/die when you move them.

Staff knows what they are talking about for the most part.

I will not argue that some things are priced a bit high, but others are a bargain. The real trick, is to sign up for their monthly mailer that sends coupons! Usually by the time you factor in a coupon, they are beating most of the competition out of the water. (pun intended)

Bottom line: Check this place out. Then check it out again because they probably got something new and awesome that most other places would never consider carrying.

If you like the sterile facade that Petsmart and the like provide, you really don't know much about this hobby.

Wouldn't Recommend It
June 1, 2009 by Anonomous Aquarist

I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone unless they're absolutely desperate. The staff are helpful but they make me extremely uncomfortable since they just followed me around and stared at me while I looked at the fishes. All of the tanks were dirty and overstocked (you do NOT put a 5 inch puffer in a 1 gallon tank) and many of the fishes I saw suffered from a variety of diseases. The entire store is dark, dirty, and smells funny. If you want a good place to get fishes, go to Dennys Pet World in Kirkland instead. It's worth the drive.
